Kutti boy a big boy!

I have had so many little posts in my head but did not sit down to write any of them. I suppose like marriage you first are so excited when you start a blog...you think of what to write, feverishly read those scant comments that are left for your post, you get excited, disappointed, you then reposition yourself and settle more comfortably in that space...make new blog pals and get so comfortable with them that you don't really keep in touch with them...and the excitement of those initial posts is replaced by this feeling of familiarity and liberty. Counting on those few loyal blog pals to read you even if you post infrequently!

Am digressing. I figured I should write a short post at least because recently in my email exchange with Tara, I realized I had not even clearly written about how KB has healed after his cast was removed on Apr.20.09 after nearly seven weeks of his left arm being in one. It was not a pleasant time for me to see him that way but I also found it to be a different kind of experience in parenting. Where you learn to cope with the hardest part of it - that of bearing your child's pain with grace. He was not in pain but to see this child know his own limits as to what he can or cannot do, to know that he cannot go to the park unless he was just going to walk around...it was heart breaking if I paused to think about it. What carried me through was the only thought that it was a finite time and I should be mighty grateful for that - many people have it much much worse. And I pray to God that even if he were to put me (us) through difficult situations, it should be ones I can come out of and move on with life.

So much has happened in the last three months. KB's arm seems to have healed well, thank god. I still feel nervous when I see him run very fast on concrete areas in the park or jump from raised structures - but I try hard to not focus on it. We moved to a single level home with a nice yard and the kids are loving it. Just as I thought to myself, oh what a nice feeling to see the kids playing happily in the yard at the back hours on end, a friend told me a few days back that her house was burgled. That has left me nervous since she lives a couple of miles from my place. And this is supposed to be one of the safest places in the nation. Prayers again.

KG turned two in June and KB turned four in Aug. I can hardly believe it when I see the two kids sitting very close to each other, sometimes with KB leaning on KB while they watch "Free Willy". I need to write a separate post on their developing personalities. Polar opposites many ways. We had a party for them in a reserved picnic shelter at a beautiful park earlier in the month and it was a lot of fun. We had a puppet show for the kids which was a super hit. They all played ball and ran around on the field after the cake cutting. A couple of friends who I really hoped would come could not make it - other than that it was satisfying for me. The best part was that my mother was here with us the last two months and so she was there for the party. The kids just lovvved having Patti around. She taught them old tamil rhymes like "Maangai thalai murugan" which are utterly charming and cute. She left just two days back and I am sorely missing her presence at home. She was so good with the kids that I really feel bad for them.

KB started pre-K in a new school since the beginning of August. He got into another school close to my place after having been in their wait list for a long time. But KB chose to go to this other school instead. So I decided to go with his wishes. I am so glad we chose this current school. The teachers are absolutely wonderful and nurturing. They give the kids so much space to play and run and be kids and yet manage to also teach them things. It was one of the few schools that let me bring KB for three classes before enrolling there just so he can get used to the place with me around. The first day KB cried a little but calmed down soon after I left apparently. When I went to pick him up, he was leaning very comfortably on the bean bag and talking to his teacher and his classmates! So far so good. Praying that the teachers should continue here the whole year and KB should have a positive experience overall.

I leave you with a couple of pictures of gentle KB who is turning into a "Rettai val" (mischievous)as he turned four and that of free spirited KG who we call "Ragalai".

Am glad his arm healed well. You know sometimes at the playground, I close my eyes when I see them do something fun but yet could be quite dangerous. One doesnt want to hamper their enthu but at the same time, how does one tell one's heart to be still.

Glad that he is enjoying school.

PS:I was thinking about your marriage and blog analogy. I am in my 4th year of blogging. The 5 year itch is coming up I can feel it rofl.

Oh how they've grown ! Esp R who looks completely different and all grown up. Happy birthdays to the both of them! Glad that you had such a super party.

Big Brother has started school already? Am glad to hear that he likes it. You know you did the right thing by waiting this long, their personalities change when they become 4, they're probably much more easily adjusted to being away from home.

I'm seeing so many changes in D as well now that she's almost 4. I miss you Noonie! I wish we could go back to those days of feverish blogging and exchanging comments :)

asaan - I know what you mean - I just shut my eyes as if something was hurled at me - just automatic reaction! :)
Watch for the five year itch girl! :) Don't let it get in the way of your blogging! :)

Rohini - KG - yeah - totally grown up! Can't wait to see your little one! She too will be two before you know it!

MB - Thanks D. I am to blame for the mess up that day too - main problem was the phone tag - I still can't get over how you had a ride to come so close to us and if only I had been home when you called...

Praveen - Thanks! How is your niece?

Aryan - you are so kind! Thanks for the wishes! I have to visit your site and read what Aryan's been up to.

TP - thanks. I have ones that show him in action but somehow those are not the kind I can post because it has other people etc...

Poppins - your last line was v cute! :) Funny girl! Seriously - we were all kind of new to the group then and would post messages/comments so much more often.
KB has been going to school the last year too - you forgot those posts? He cried a lot in the first school - so I moved him to another one where he settled down in a couple of days - except this one it was only two hours a day and age group 3-5...
I wanted to move to another pre-K program because the other one was only two hours and very much play based...the one he is in now is also a play based kind but here they incorporate many more things and also prepare them for kindergarten (US Kindergarten that is!).

Kodi - thanks girl! So are your two kutties - the silly numbers man and lady killer. (Btw - the other goof ball here packed yet another random gift for Kodi Aunty's kutti payyan!). KB started in August - it's only 3 half days a week - we are being a little lax about getting there on time since it is only summer - from September on we have to make it there by 9.00 am. Today I took KG over to a friend's house for a play date - the two girls were doing parallel play w/out any issues - no older siblings to compete with...

Oh silly ! I knew he has started school, I meant he started school and it's not even fall yet. I thought they started in Sep. I re-read my comment and realised how I sounded. I know he had started school even before but I got the impression that it wasn't school-school and I was right. Even otherwise you started him on school the last compared to all of us!

So good to see an update. Am glad KB's arm healed well. We had a discussion last year when one of our friend's 9 year old daughter fell from the monkey bars and fractured her arm. Many of us in a natural moment of panic said she would forbid her children from climbing those but all of us later agreed its like telling children to stop growing up.

Loved their latest pictures. KG so looks like a big girl now - still remeber her crawling ard with KB's school bag. Time flies so rapidly.

glad to know that the arm's healed well...when my 6 yrold tumbles all over the place , i get nervous imagining all kinds of nasty falls, (he's had so many stitiches till date) but then its all part of growing, more on my role as a mom :)

happy birthdays to the lil ones...wishing them loads of joy and togetherness in the coming years.

I like the new names better.. rettai vaalu and ragalai.. I used to be called rettai vaalu when I was a kid.. partly due to the two pony tails sprouting from my head I think!! :) Lovely post noon.. I just love the way the love and affection pours through your posts!!

and yeah can I have some of those tamil rhymes too.. I would love to teach Cheeky some of them! I dont recall any from my childhood :(

Hey Poppy - He turned three last Aug and I put him in preschool in Sep. Usually non working parents (who don't need day care) send kids to preschool only at age three here. His previous school is really like any other play based school except it is only two hours a day. This current one is kind of different from others I have seen - it is play based but it incorporates montessori kind of materials also...science center, art center, manipulatives etc...it has its own drawbacks but I am really happy with the teachers and the drawbacks are not really much to complain about just because of the teachers. Absolutely nurturing.

Neera - don't even talk about the monkey bars. After KB's fall I just have to close my eyes when he tries those...
Jiya and KG - they really grew up too fast - seems like they were just born - suddenly they are competing with their brothers for everything.

Suma - thanks for the wishes. So many stitches? Gosh - really - this mommy role toughens you up doesn't it? First time must have been scary - my friend too - her son has fallen so many times - now she is much less scared...

Preethi - Rettai vaalu - not bcz of your pony tails dear - you really must have been a RV from what I have read (butterfingers) in your old posts. Falling all over the place and giving your parents heart ache! I will email you some tamil rhymes.
